The 'Why Languages" project for Huddersfield University used an innovative mixture of animation and interviews resulting in a dynamic and fun approach to what could have been a fairly 'standard' series of 'vox pops'.
"Using a combination of 'green screen' compositing techniques and the animation of hand drawn cartoons we were able to create an exciting film", explained Company Director Matt Daniels. "The animated drawings add depth to the finished film and create a deeper visual experience for the intended audience (pre- University teens). One of the most important things to understand when making a piece like this is your audience. Teens in this age group engage with fast paced creatively simulating media over many platforms, for a film like this to work it has to be a fit for the media they already engage with at the same time as being something a bit different, cleaver or off the wall. Young audiences are intelligent, experienced and demanding of the quality of their media experiences.
